The combination of foil and Colorplan takes this multiplication table poster to an even higher level. The Proud studio’s ‘type’ nerds have created this poster using a range of beautiful typefaces…

We think this multiplication table is a fantastic way of keeping the kids bedroom from looking like a branded festival of nonsense!

Podge: Stationery Set

I now have a good idea what Podge is all about! At it’s heart is the wonderful Phil Jones whom I had the pleasure of meeting at a GF Smith event, this meeting set me on a really fun journey.
-
The Podge staionery is a full set – maintaining a very simple co-ordinated look across the range, using different processes throughout. One set of cards have a solid printed reverse, whilst another set has a Colorplan duplexed to the reverse. All items are bought together by a distinctive logo foiling. A very simple but beautiful set of stationery all printed foiled and made up with GF Smith papers.

As part of the this journey Phil Jones invited me to a very special design industry ‘Podge’ Lunch, which unbeknown to me has an extra special leaving gift:)

Brand strategy, Naming, Identity Writing, and Literature
The identity is centred around a typographic ligature of the ‘un’, drawing inspiration from the infinity loop and the balance of ying-yang. The graphic language is rich with colour, representing the un-limitedness of the experiences. ‘Volume 1′ is a bespoke selection of experiences for the attendees of its launching weekend.

Life un-limited is a series of experiences to exercise the mind, body and spirit. The target audience are high net-worth individuals. Successful but unsatisfied. Removing itself from the usual language of spa’s and alternative therapies, Life Un-limited challenges to engage in something that will nudge you our of your comfort-zone and invite you to think differently.

Adopt A Northerner™ – Part One

Adopt a Northerner™ has always really meant Adopt a Student!

They may not be as cuddly as a Panda but they are great to have around!
I would like to introduce you to Anand, a third year student from Yorkshire,
studying at Leeds College of Art.

I am a Third Year Graphic Design Student From Leeds College of Art, studying on a fantastic course run by Program Leader Fred Bates, Amber Smith and Lorenzo Madge. Generation Press have been a major inspiration to me and my design practice for some time now. As a designer I have a love for print particularly promotions which use specialist print processes. After contacting Paul from GP, I asked if I could pop down for a visit. To my surprise Paul offered me not only a visit but an ultimate print experience. ” Your going to be like a kid in a sweet shop”, and I can tell you now that was an understatement.
-
We even collaborated together to come up with a special promotional flyer based on the visit. “Generation Press Adopt A Northerner”. Paul suggested we use litho for this, so I can gain knowledge into the print process. Which was explained to me in-depth by GP’s proper quality printer Kevin, in the repro department.

THEN…Paul gave me complete free range on any of their stocks and processes to create my very first business cards. Which came out a treat, Well Nice! They consisted of a 350gsm Cool Grey & Cool Blue (from the GF Smith Colorplan range) on the front which was duplexed to the Exclusive GP colorplan Barr(y)ie on the back. We also used a range of foils for the job, such as holographic neon, magenta, pearl white and gun metal. Over 2000 were printed, this allowed me to see the Original Heidelberg foil blocking press in action. Richard, who had a drive for perfection on the Heidelberg, ran the press. The cards were then duplexed effectively and efficiently by Kate, which wasn’t so efficient when I had a try, but practice makes perfect.

Generation Press are without a doubt the best in the business, they have an inspiring team of printers which come from different disciplines and specialist backgrounds within print. They produce work only to the highest standards, with the upmost attention to detail and craft to even the smallest jobs. Lets just say Design is only the beginning, here is where it is brought to life to its fullest potential. This was an unforgettable experience, A special Thank-you to Paul for taking the time to create this amazing opportunity for me, and to all at Generation press who have taken time out to make sure I have the best experience. I am Proud to be the newest member of the GP family.

Celebrating ten years of print from the fourth generation! We like to see these posters as a thank you to the people and companies that have supported us over the last ten ten years and incentives to those in the forthcoming years. It’s been a journey! GPis10 – Mailer

‘GP is 10′ is now off and running and the first lucky recipients are starting to receive their copies of our GP10 mailer!

Packaged in a specially designed/constructed mailing box (with our own Colorplan Barry™ duplexed to the inner). Inside is a wallet holding ten items featuring contributions from Build, Sanna Annukka, Timothy Saccenti & John O’Reilly

This is a gift from us to our customers who have supported us over the last ten years. We are very proud to have worked with Build, Sanna, Timothy & John on this project. This is also a testament to everyone here that has put the time and effort in to making all the pieces as good as they are.

This would not have been possible without the huge contribution of the creative’s involved, so a very big thank you to them!

Most important at this time is all the people that make up Generation Press. Every detail on this has seen everyone contribute and it is their skill and craftmanship that has made this what it is – A massive thank you to all at GP.

This really lovely piece combines black with overprinting fluorescent inks, with matt black foil details to the reverse. The show through and the impression of the letterpress-like matt black foil makes this invite quite mesmeric.

Zip Design got in touch with us to try and crack this beauty, with the combinations of foil and print across all items, this needed a real attention to detail.
-
The business Cards are great, with different coloured backs to all the cards, on the front of the cards, each person has their details in white foil on colorplan ebony. Interestingly we duplexed two 175gsm Colorplans to give a nice elegent feel to the cards.
-
The letterheads and compliments slips had all the details in shiny black foil, and the rich black reverses printed solid litho on to one of our favourite sheets Zanders Zeta Micro. The micro embossing on these sheets adds that little extra dimension.

We were delighted for William & Son when they won the Royal Crest. These unusual circumstances led to one of the happiest reprints for everyone. This stationery had to be reprinted to include the Royal Crest – adding the finishing touch to this rather royal set.

This set of stationery is astonishing! First look at the artwork and it appears like a really nice minimal B&W set of stationery, but with the brilliant choice of materials and foil blocking it takes this stationery into a higher state of consciousness! Colorplan Ebony and Pristine White duplexed for the business cards and the compliments cards, one colour litho print on both sides of Colorplan for the letterheads.

The white foil blocking on the reverse just has a magical look and feel, the contrast of the shinny white foil against the deep black toothy-ness of Colorplan Ebony just gets the mind racing! the font on the front is foil blocked in metallic black.

Here is the official Press Release!

Eleven is a collection of images of footballers (originally commissioned for a campaign by Medhi Benmamar and Alvin Chan at Nike) shot by Rick Guest. Designed by Yacht Associates, printed by Generation Press and published through by Generation Yacht, Eleven sports an embossed soft white leather hardback cover. “The concept for this book was to create ‘prints’ that were bound into a book, rather than images to be ‘designed’ around, hence it became very much an exercise in removing superfluous content and almost designing out the design to leave something that communicated through it’s tactility and functionality,” explains Yacht Associates‘ Richard Bull.

“Each page has a serrated tear line down the inner edge, which serves to aid removal but more importantly acts as ‘nod’ to the owner that permission is granted to remove pages if desired,” adds Bull. “There are eleven ‘Hero’ shots and eleven ‘Action Shots’, the later images are fold out landscapes and the look follows a format where a fold-out appears after every ‘Hero’ shot. The technical challenges we faced required an enormous amount of research and development with Generation Press – which culminated in the book taking almost a year from conception to finished item. Published by Generation Yacht this book exists in a very limited edition of 100 copies and is not for sale.”

“The book was initially a reaction to the ephemeral nature of commercial work, to give substance to not just the work, but to the experience of shooting it,” says Guest of the project. “A reminder of the journey, travelling madly around Europe, every day a different country, a different player, working with a fantastically tight crew, shooting frenetically within the tiny windows in the players schedules. Later however, it became more of a thankyou to all those involved; of course they get paid and get to tell their mates they were involved, but it’s not the same as holding something you were part of in your hands, something to be proud of. All the people involved gave more than they were asked, it made sense to say thanks in a way that did justice to that.”

D&AD Awards Tickets – NB: Studio – 19028

D&AD Awards dinner tickets, designed by NB:Studio

This is our most recent work for D&AD and our first real opportunity to work with NB:Studio,
D&AD had put us together for this project, it was a real pleasure to work with the guys at NB they really valued our input into how best to produce this ticket and envelope. We hadn’t worked together before so building trust quickly was key to getting this project to look so good!
-
One side of the ticket was was foil-blocked in white and yellow foil on black Colorplan, the reverse was printed lithographically on white Colorplan, we then duplexed the two together and die cut with radius corners to give a lovely sturdy 700 gsm Ticket.
-
The envelope was was made from Black Colorplan with a large foil blocked image in white foil that came out really crisp and clear, we then die cut the envelope and made it up, with a die cut sticker to secure it closed.

Congratulations to NB:Studio for such amazing visuals and livery for the ceremony, it was mind blowingly good!

Commonwealth – Lard book – 18496

Wow look at this for a line up, proud to have graced our presses with this beauty, this was a labour of love, great imagery, great products and a great design.
-
We were afforded the time with this project to do things in the right order! working with the designer Michael (from Build) from the very beginning.
-
This allowed us to plan each element including getting the sections with the scores on the inserts working out so when all the sheets came together in the slip case, both scored edges were equal.
-
Another attention to detail was getting the wrap around slip case just right so the depth of the capacities were wide enough to hold the inserts but not to wide to let them fall out.
-
One of my favourite aspects on this is the use of the litho printed white on the recycled grey board along side the foil blocking & debossing, a great example of using alternative materials and turning them into something special!
